Social Responsibility

For full details on the below initiatives, please visit the Tshipi website.

People

Tshipi strives to treat their people fairly and uphold their rights at all times whilst providing them with a safe, healthy working environment and reward system that appreciates their daily contribution to the success of the business. Tshipi continuously promotes excellence in safety behaviours by investing in safety training and procedures as well as a comprehensive framework to mitigate risks.

Communities

Tshipi strives to put social responsibility at the centre of its day to day business operations. Tshipi believes in supporting a sustainable development of local communities and work tirelessly to minimise the environmental impact in the areas where they operate.

Mining is one of the largest contributors to gross domestic product in the Northern Cape, and through its core business activities, Tshipi contributes to the South African economy through inter alia investment, the creation of jobs, procurement spend and payment of royalties and taxes.

Stakeholders

Tshipi is committed to building and maintaining constructive, long-standing relationships with their stakeholders in contributing to sustainable economic and social development within the communities where they operate. Dealing openly and transparently with all stakeholders is vital for Tshipi's future and maintaining a social licence to operate. To assist in this regard, Tshipi has developed a stakeholder engagement plan which enables it to align its community development projects with local government's Integrated Development Plans and Tshipi's Social and Labour Plan.

Health and Safety

Tshipi is committed to the principle of zero harm, with the goal that every employee and contract worker should return home unharmed every day. Tshipi has implemented an effective health and safety system to ensure that its people are not exposed to an unsafe and unhealthy work environment.

Tshipi focuses on the prevention of injuries and fatalities by enforcing safety measures and procedures that supervisors and the workforce need to abide by, every day and in every instance, without exception. Tshipi also focuses on the health of its people by taking preventative measures in relation to dust, noise and ergonomic hazards and expect from employees to undergo regular medical tests to minimise risk of contracting occupational diseases.

Environment

Tshipi is committed to comply with the laws that guide its actions in the natural resource space from a legal compliance perspective but also from the perspective of recognising its responsibility to act as a good corporate citizen. Its aim is to manage the environment responsibly throughout the life cycle of its operations to ensure that it does not unduly disturb or destroy the environment where it operates.

Tshipi addresses the environmental impact of its business activities on an ongoing basis by integrating issues such as pollution control, waste management and rehabilitation activities into its operating procedures. Tshipi is legally committed and will comply with all environmental laws, including but not limited to the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998, and Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act 28 of 2002.
