Jupiter’s CEO and Managing Director Brad Rogers presented at the 2024 Battery Minerals Conference in Perth, Western Australia sharing plans to produce battery-grade manganese, a critical component of electric vehicle batteries.
Jupiter Managing Director and CEO Brad Rogers presented this week at the 2024 Battery Minerals Conference in Perth, Western Australia, highlighting Jupiter’s strategic focus on producing battery-grade manganese for supply into the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) battery market.

With a solid 5-year company strategy unveiled in March 2023, and a completed scoping study to evaluate the opportunity to produce battery-grade manganese, Jupiter aims to leverage its status as a major global manganese producer to supply High Purity Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate (HPMSM) from its tier one Tshipi manganese mine (Jupiter 49.9%), in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin South Africa.
The scoping study, which was released in March 2024, yielded promising results, confirming successful laboratory scale production with the potential for optimisation and scaling up.
At the conference, Brad emphasised Jupiter's competitive advantages, including its high-quality, low-risk status as a large incumbent miner with strong cash flows and zero debt. Additionally, with support from major shareholders POSCO and AMCI, who are actively involved in the downstream battery mineral space, Jupiter is well-positioned to capitalise on the growing demand for HPMSM in the EV battery market.
Participating in a panel discussion, Brad shared Jupiter’s commitment to market diversification and product risk reduction, aiming to optimise the use of its mineral resources while tapping into the financial attractiveness of the HPMSM market.
“With access to an existing tier one mine in Tshipi, which has a track record of low-cost production and more than 100 years of mine life remaining, Jupiter has the potential to make a significant impact in the EV battery supply chain,” he said.
EV batteries are integral to the electrification of transportation, a key component in the global effort to decarbonise and transition towards sustainable energy systems. As outlined in Jupiter’s inaugural Sustainability Report, the supply of battery-grade manganese into the EV market is an exciting opportunity for the company to play a role in the global energy transition, supporting the decarbonisation of passenger transport.
